What distance is this race?
The 5K is about a little more than three miles. The course is wheel measured and accurate USATF Certified.
What will the weather be like?
Good question! The weather in North Texas is somewhat unpredictable in the Fall time, but you knew that! The average temperature for mid-November in our area is in the 60s to low-70s in the daytime and mid 40s to 50 in the evening. – Excellent running weather! But it is North Texas after all, so be prepared! In the event of rain, the race will continue, unless the City of Plano deems it to be unsafe! Our social media accounts will be the best location to get updates about the weather’s effect of our race.
Are there awards for top finishers?
Yes, there are awards for top overall finishers, female and male, as well as age group winners. Awards go three deep, with 10-year age groups. You must be present to receive your award. Awards will NOT be mailed.
Can I get a refund if I register but don’t run?
No. We plan the race based on the number of registered runners, so once you have registered we cannot offer you a refund.
Can I reserve a shirt in a certain size?
When you check the box next to a t-shirt size on your registration form, you are not reserving a shirt; you are helping us plan how many shirts we need to order in each size. If it is important that you get a shirt in your size, please register early.
Can anyone run or walk the NextGen 5K &10K?
Yes, the event is open to anyone, any age.
Can I run or walk with a baby jogger?
Baby joggers are allowed but we ask that you start your race at the back of the pack.
Can I run with my dog?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Oak Point Park. Please be courteous and clean up after your pet. Fido must be leashed at all times. Please start your race at the back of the pack to reduce the risk of tripping.
Will there be an after-race celebration?
Oh, yeah! You won’t want to miss the awards ceremony that immediately follows the race. Every runner will be entered into a raffle for fantastic gift card giveaways, but they must be present to win. There will be time for you to stop by each of fabulous sponsors’ booths to see what additional prizes are up for grabs. Plus you’ll have a chance to see who medals in each of the age group categories.
How is the race timed?
Participants will wear a bib number with an electronically-readable chip affixed. As runners cross the Finish line they run over a mat with a sensor that recognizes and records each runner’s “chip time”. Bib numbers must be attached to the FRONT of your shirt to be read accurately.
Can we create a team?
Teams are a great way to get your friends and family involved in the race with you! You can dress up in costumes and have as many people as you want, but the minimum number of team members is 4! You will get to choose a team name. Be sure to have your friends and family sign up using your team name! After registering for the race, you will be able to log in to your team account to update details. You may add notes, team members, and check the size of your team!
What is the refund policy?
The NextGen5K, 10K & Fun Run has a NO REFUND POLICY. That means that we are a rain/shine event and will go on no matter what (unless the City of Plano deems that it will be too dangerous for participants and volunteers) and will not refund your registration fee if you are unable to participate. In the event that severe weather cancels our event, refunds will not be given.
When should I arrive?
We recommend that you arrive at least 1 hour before your start time. You will need this time to park, pick up your packet (if you have not done this already), and get to the race start. Remember that traffic will be heavy on race day and could delay you even further, so try to carpool!
Where is the lost and found?
Lost and found will be at our volunteer station. All items must be reclaimed by the owner and a driver's license will be copied for each item.
